Brad's 1990 Mazda RX-7 pro-am drift build [CRNBURY]
Finally getting around to putting a thread together
Very happy with the outcome of this first season, as I really only have been drifting since february of this year. At Rd. 4 I qualified 19th out of 38, which I was okay with, a lot of these guys have infinite horsepower, and I was just glad to be able to consistently connect the track with stock power on a pretty large banked mini-irwindale-ish track. Lots of changes coming over the offseason to be actually competitive for 2014
Mods:
PBM coilovers
GP Sports super angle kit/bumpsteer
HotLine knuckles
rear camber adjuster bar (still need individual links..)
no sway bars
dtss elims
turbo 2 front brakes w/ semi metallic pads
koyo 2 pass rad
removed emissions
ORC twin plate clutch
KAAZ 1.5way diff (still in NA housing..)
intake/straightpipe exhaust w magnaflow muffler
sparco sprint driver seat/knockoff pass seat
probably many other small things I can't think of
how the car was when I first saw it:
Some changes over the next few months:
more power
cage
lots of little suspension and chassis tuning stuff
hopefully paint/aero by rd 1 of next season

Getting wide front fenders as soon as possible, I hate the way it looks right now lol...but had to choose between making it look nice and making it to the event with enough tires, and, well you know..

Here's my sound deadening delete update that no build thread in this forum seems to be complete without
This will be done in the next few hours, then picking up a new dashboard because mine is basically cracked in pieces.
Then have to install my wideband, boost and fuel controllers, and tune it. Excited for all that power

some minor updates, today I wired my apexi S-AFC and AVC-R up, and in the process of wiring my plx wideband module, wired up the wrong polarity because the power plug I was using I was told was the opposite polarity than it was, and something in the display module fried for the record, I absolutely LOATHE wiring and electronics lol... so I contacted PLX to see if it's repairable or if I need a new module...so hopefully I can get it fixed/replaced quickly and easily!
Also got a new pretty dash with no cracks. My old one was so bad that even touching it wrong would make it crumble..
Also I think I'm gonna plastidip my wheels white. over the stupid black on black crappy xxr stuff and wanna mix it up haha...if I had money I would probably have about 76 sets of wheels but I work with what I got :P

Solid diff mounts and rear camber links installed for all star bash, car felt solid with now zero camber in rear and less sloppiness going on. All star bash was SO much fun..I wish there was one every month lol. Makes me wanna drive across states to go to all the dope events that happen around this time of the year. I had to stick the stock injectors back on before the event because I ran out of time to tune it, but I did end up taking about 5% of fuel out across the board because it was running really rich, and could definitely feel the difference in just that few percent. Can't wait to drive it with actual tune and more boost. Pics of ASB to come soon

Also messed around with this this morning on one of my busted rims
was able to get it down to bare aluminum, took about 10 minutes for just this much, and of course this is just the first step in a long succession of using finer and finer grit sandpaper and wet sanding it and then polishing it. Should look pretty sick when it's done and the spokes are painted/plastidipped. They'll look like super super fake wannabe work meisters haha. But if I do it right should look pretty sick, a lot better than the dumb matte black and red stripe!

planning on getting materials for the cage later this week or into next week! I need a few little other things but that's going to be the biggest thing to get done. I should still have the funds to paint it after my cage is complete, but obviously the biggest thing is going to be functionality. New wheel setup for this year as well, I'll be running 17x9s all around. Cant wait to get back on the track again!

Doing a practice event at HTM on sunday! New suspension setup. I was running 10k front 8k rear which comes stock on the PSM coilovers, so I got some 6k springs so I can run 8k/6k. Rotated my front camber plates 45 degrees so adjustments don't affect caster. Hopefully will make a big difference in making the car smoother on initiations/transitions especially..it was EXTREMELY bouncy and stiff before.
Oh yeah, and threw some widebody panels on since last time too

I'm very curious about how your lack of caster adjustment will affect handling. Will you have to throw the wheel around now or will it all line itself up the way it should?
Edit: And are your 8/6 springs still stiff enough to run without sway bars?
